Ok, the backlight has been installed and i didn’t screw up the LCD, BUT, first things first turbo charged warning here;
Firstly, the reflector guard has like zero clearance, so once the lights are removed it may not easily be reinstalled.
Second, a 10W backlight is not as bright as the original 50W one. I dont think its even close. But, and now we can slow down now, i wasnt able to use the reflector so the LED strips are about 4mm from the LCD where they would have been anyway, but currently are without a reflector and light may be being lost in my setup, it could be that the 10W leds are just as strong as the 50W cffls. In retrospect though, i probably could have rigged something up pulling the reflector out since it was only plastic sheeting.
As to why the guard was out to begin with, there is really low clearance, and i think the guard has to sort of slip under the LCD to make enough room plus at the same time the back plate must be placed onto the LCD perfectly with the clips pulled back, its not a 1 man job, maybe 2 or 3, and risking some damage anyway to the monitor. What i did was glue the LED strip into where the guard normally is adhered to with kapton tape. I dont recommend removing the guard if you want to try to keep it, it might be that i just mishandled it which is why the screens wouldnt fit together.
Still, as these pictures confirm below, the screen is working, following some other photos of what i attempted to do.
Also, after having glued the strips in i realized that the strips are facing the wrong way, but i can still make it work fine that way, im not too bothered. Once im done, ill be hunting down a new LED strip with greater power output, and ill 3D print a new guard/holder.
I have yet to assemble the monitor fully so the photo is just what i could do with it safely hanging off my desk. The rebuilding process is sure to be long and annoying. Also ill note that the inverter board has been unplugged and removed with no effect on the monitor, confirming a lack of feedback current to work.
And heres the other pics, again note that this isnt actually what i put in there, but you should certainly try.
