Finding a way to separate the backplate

I opened the Wacom up and begun unpeeling some of the protective tape holding the screen together, I also undid some screws, I found that the 4 black screws around the monitor hold it onto the plastic frame, also, two metal rails cover the top and bottom of the screen and are glued to the underside of the plastic screen that you write on. Attempting to remove it for better access may cause serious damage to the LCD indirectly.

A further observation made was when at first I thought perhaps the black tape running around the edge of the screen could be holding it together, but then after removing one of the aluminium heatsinks I found a screw, indicating that the backplate comes apart, and in all likelihood, the outer backplate is actually a thin cover housing the CCFL tubes and possibly some extra circuitry as there is ribbon cable also going into it as can be seen between the two copper heatsinks.

The metal rails do not need to be removed to access the backlight tubes. However it looks like the monitor will need to be disassembled everywhere something overlaps the tape. All heatsinks at least may have to come off.

Ill note that at this point im not 100% positive if this is the correct path to follow, but, as it stands it’s the only one that makes sense following the logic that the backplate isn’t glued together, given it has screws.

Included are some photos taken along the way.

As these are mostly closeups, they serve their purpose like this. Further posts involving the dissasembly will be made in wordpress, so, the images will be available in almost raw resolution.
